We are in a very interesting time for the United States of America…especially interesting if you haven’t realized it yet.
What’s going on?
There is no longer a lower class, a middle class, or an upper class, America is now made up of the 1% & the 99%. The 1% equals roughly 400 individuals that own the same amount of wealth as an accumulated 155 Million (155,000,000) American citizens(roughly 50% of our National Population), and that’s just wealth, that doesn’t include the power and control that comes along with that. The 99% equals everyone else that’s not in the one percent (roughly 310,000,000 Americans), pretty simple.
Why is this a big deal?
As Americans (and as the 99%), this is one of the first times in the last 20 years (or so) that we’re putting our foot down and taking a stand for what we deserve. We’re getting the things back that have been taken from us, and we’re uniting together physically and emotionally to stop the greed and corruption which currently makes up our Country.
What do we deserve that we don’t currently have?
This is an interesting question that is normally asked by the people that haven’t been negatively affected, on more than a surface level, by the 1%. Others may read this question and immediately think of a few answers like:
- We deserve a Country where the poor and the rich get taxed equally. (Why is it that the highest tax rates in America are given out to those that can’t afford to pay them? Even some rich like Warren Buffet believe that this should be put in place)
- We deserve a Country that is willing to invest $745 billion ($745,000,000,000) into its citizen’s housing needs, instead to using that money to bail out irresponsible/bankrupt housing institutions that have over extended themselves by choice. (These institutions ironically used their new breath of life to take homes away from the people that are struggling just as much as they did…but there’s no Government help for the home owners)
- We deserve a Country where its political leaders are not purchased into office by the highest Corporate bidders, which may or may not have their own business interests in mind. (Try to imagine a system, where the maximum contribution that an individual or a business could make to a political party was $100 by law, and the candidates message was what got them into office, not their campaigning budget)
- We deserve a Country where we KNOW that we are safe in our own homes, to talk about whatever subjects we feel is appropriate, without having to worry about it being illegal. (This is one of many rights that are no longer available to us according to the Patriot Act)
What is currently happening? How are people making a change?
This seems to be the realization period. A period of time where American citizens realize that things are broken and that things need to be different for us to successfully make it through our next 20 years. A physical realization started two weeks ago, when thousands of Americans joined together to stand up for each other and the injustices that our Government has put upon us. They met at Wall Street, New York, NY with banners and a common motivation to make a difference…they called this gathering “Occupy Wall Street”. They didn’t claim to have all of the answers figured out, but through their discussions, those answers are slowly coming together. Fast forward to today, dozens of cities from across the nation are forming their own ‘Occupy’ gatherings, showing support for the 99% and letting our Country leaders know that its problems are being recognized. Multiple Unions have come on board and have brought over 200,000 additional faces to the cause in just one day. Despite the negative reactions (and physical abuse) they’ve had from the local NYPD authorities, the core ‘Wall Street’ group plans on staying put indefinitely, until something changes.
What Can YOU do to represent the 99%?
While the momentum is leading people in the right direction, we can continually assist the cause by educating ourselves, donating financially, showing up physically, participating virtually and spreading the word virally. All of these things are super important ways that you can help out if you chose to do so, but if nothing else, please consider letting your friends and family know what’s happening with this movement. If you haven’t heard about it yet, especially after two weeks of National activity, you may need to consider that not all media outlets are here for the good of the people.
If we ever want positive change for our Country during our lifetime, there is a time, and the time is NOW!
WE are the 99%, it’s time to stand up together!
Thanks for taking the time to read all of this, we ALL really appreciate it.
